Gus Theodos, 86, of Bloomfield, died on July 11, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 4:00pm through 8:00 pm at Ss. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 80 Laurel Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068.

A Funeral Ceremony will be offered on Monday, July 15, 2019 10:00 am at Ss. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Church with interment to follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ. Viewing will be offered from 9:00 am through 10:00 am prior to the funeral ceremony.

Funeral services are entrusted to Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, Roseland, NJ. Condolences and memories may be shared at shookfarmer.com.

Born in Jersey City, he grew up in Newark, moved to Montclair and settled in Bloomfield 19 years ago. He honorably served in the US Army Reserve and received his Associates Degree from Essex County College. For 26 years, he was a police officer with the Newark Police Department. He was a member of the Newark FOP Lodge 12. Afterwards, he worked for ACT as a computer programmer in the World Trade Center.

Gus was a devout member of Ss. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Church. He served as Co-President of the Parish Council for 12 years and was an integral part of the relocation of the church to Roseland from Orange. He also served as President of the Parish Council for St. Nicholas Church in Newark and aided in the merger of the church with Ss. Constantine and Helen Church in Orange. He was a recipient of the Medal of St. Paul, a prestigious award for all his dedication to his church community.

He was the President of the Ss. Nicholas Constantine and Helen Church Senior’s Club, a member of the church choir, and served as an advisor for the GOYA for St. Nicholas Church. Gus was a longtime member of the Order of AHEPA. He volunteered much time with the 5th District AHEPA Cancer Research Foundation.

In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to opera as well as Beethoven and was quite an expert on history. Above all he loved the time spent with family….and food too.

Pre-deceased by his parents, Nicholas and Helen and his sister, Carol Rhodes.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary (Louvis) Theodos; devoted children, Nicholas Theodos (Stephanie), Diana Moulton (Tom), Nicholas Churus (Joyce) and Diane Churus (Wayne Hanrahan); nine cherished grandchildren and thirteen loving great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Ss. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Church Mortgage Fund.
